GLYNIS WRIGHT & CO SPONSOR ANNUAL OPEN ART EXHIBITION AT SOCK GALLERY, LOUGHBOROUGH TOWN HALL
7 AUGUST TO 3 SEPTEMBER 2013
Glynis Wright, Director of Glynis Wright & Co were proud to be the sponsors for the Annual Open Art Exhibition at the Sock Gallery. Glynis said “ I love supporting the arts wherever possible. I know how difficult it can be for aspiring artists to get their name known and to gain recognition. It was for that reason that I decided my company would sponsor the 2013 exhibition at the Sock Gallery which is a beautiful, modern gallery space located in the Loughborough Town Hall.
When I was asked to view the art works that had been submitted for the competition I was bowled over by the talent and the wide range of medium being used and the astounding creativity of the artists.
There was one particular artist whose work stood out head and shoulders above the rest and that was a young artist called Ollie who had submitted an incredibly detailed line drawing of a whale that was undeniably beautiful and original.
I was therefore delighted when Ollie won first prize and I was able to present him with a cheque from Glynis Wright & Co to help him continue with his work.
Ollie then went on to win another prize in the Annual Open at the New Walk Museum and is undoubtedly set for a fine career as an artist.
I have already purchased one of his pieces myself in the hope that one day he will be very famous and my picture worth a small fortune!
Situated in Loughborough’s Market Place, the Sock Gallery at Loughborough Town Hall is ideally located as a key building in the thriving Loughborough Town Centre. The venue’s foyer is a busy space open to the public seven days a week and includes the Sock Gallery, Box Office, Tourist Information Centre and the Balcony Gallery offering the opportunity for social interaction and appreciation for the arts.
The Town Hall also has a number of other spaces, namely the Victoria Room, the Council Chamber and the Beacon Room which are available for private hire by individuals, businesses and other organisations. The venue includes a 528 seat multi-use theatre with retractable, tiered seating to enable the staging of a range of events such as exhibitions, dances, meetings and seminars, together with theatre performances of drama, dance, music and comedy.
Loughborough Town Hall is owned and funded by Charnwood Borough Council. In addition to this, the Town Hall, like similar venues, is seeking to develop its relationship with the local business community, in particular through sponsorship, to enable the venue to provide a broad range of artistic events and exhibitions while providing a valuable publicity opportunity for those businesses. Loughborough Town Hall has previously developed successful relationships a number of local companies, including East Midlands Airport, The Loughborough (Building Society) and William Davis.
Sock Gallery opened in March 2011, and has established itself as one of the leading art gallery spaces in Leicestershire, with a regular (6 weekly) programme of art exhibitions. Both local and nationally based artists have exhibited in the gallery where they showcase and sell their work. The gallery also has a smaller exhibition space upstairs in the balcony gallery, and craft cabinets for quality handmade items ranging from sculpture to jewellery. The annual programme of exhibitions also includes one touring exhibition (Matisse in 2013) and the Annual Open Exhibition.
